DAU entered its first Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with George Mason University in a virtual signing ceremony September 3 to establish a framework for exchanging visiting faculty between the organizations.
This agreement allows DAU to bring in academic experts from GMU to assist DAU with course and product development, further increasing alignment between academia and Defense organizations. The partnership allows a multiyear faculty exchange program between DAU and GMU. In accordance with the agreement, GMU faculty will work alongside DAU faculty and staff to coordinate training, conduct research and support learning asset development and delivery. By bringing in visiting faculty, DAU ensures that Defense Acquisition Workforce members have a broad exposure to current research on critical topics, such as data analytics, digital engineering, cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence.
“We want to be a platform and network for learning, and because we know we can’t be the best at everything, we reach out to others, like GMU, and bring them into our network," DAU President James Woolsey said during the virtual ceremony.
His sentiment was echoed by George Mason University Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Mark R. Ginsberg, who commented on the importance of creating life-long learners and noted that the impacts of this educational exchange extend beyond the doors of the two institutions.
“It is a point of pride for us to be engaged with DAU and be part of your learning community. Defense acquisition, especially around the Washington, D.C. area, is highly important for the vitality of our region and the defense of our Nation in every way,” Ginsberg said.
In an effort to bridge stronger ties with traditional academic institutions, DAU is always looking for partnerships with other colleges and universities. Recently, DAU signed a similar MOA with Lawrence Technological University that also allows for faculty exchanges between the two universities. More information on DAU partnerships, including those with Industry and other Defense organizations, can be found on the DAU partnership page.
