How long does the government have to keep a contractor and thier subcontractors payroll forms on file before the documents can be destroyed?

    Answer

Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 22 contains the application of Labor Laws to government acquisitions.  FAR 22.406-1 specifically requires contracting agencies to ensure full and impartial enforcement of labor standards in the administration of contracts.  This includes, at FAR 22.401-6(a)(2)the requirement for adequate payroll reviews.  Contractors are required to submit these payrolls under the terms of the contract and they become part of the contract file; therefore, the normal required retention times for contract files apply.
