Is a DD Form 577 needed for CORs?

    Answer

Unless the COR is being appointed one of the duties identified in block 6 of the form; then here is NO DoD requirement that CORs be appointed using the DD Form 577 (that’s not even one of the options in Block 6).  If by chance the individual is being assigned one of those duties… it is completely separate and distinct from their COR duties.

CORs get appointed via a letter of designation signed by the Contracting Officer.  For most of DoD this process is done through the CORT-T.  If the person needs more information, send them to the guidance at DFARS PGI 201.602 and DoDI 5000.72 - DoD Standard for Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) Certification.
