Do I need a designation letter like the engine for an APU? I currently have a designations of T-62T-46-3. However I did not do a designation letter. This is a new item and at this point is not GFE and will not be until we accumulate a number of hours on it.
Ultimately this is a decision that would be made by your Service or your Service’s respective Systems/Logistics/Materiel Command (in the case of a Navy aviation component/subcomponent, this would most likely be NAVAIRSYSCOM). When in doubt, however, or when requirements are unclear, it is probably prudent to err on the side of submitting and later finding out it was not required, than to not submit and find out later that it was in fact required.
