When awarding a task order off an IDIQ awarded with a specific PSC, does the task order PSC have to match the IDIQ PSC or is it appropriate to select a PSC more specific for the service fulfilled with the task order (I.e. Q201 generic as opposed to Q401 nursing)?

    Answer

The FAR doesn't prohibit changing the PSC after award.  Product or Service codes indicate “WHAT” was bought for each contract action reported in the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS).  In many cases, a given contract/task order/purchase order will include more than one product and/or service. In such cases, the “Product or Service Code” data element code should be selected based on the predominant product or service that is being purchased.  In other words, pick the code that best identifies the product or service procured. If more than one code applies, then report the code that represents most of the ultimate contract/task order/purchase order value.
