As a general supply specialist. Am I required to complete the DAU level 2 acquisition course? My job announcement stated that I was required to complete this within 2 years. However, my training coordinator stated that I was not considered an acquisition employee and that I did not have to complete this course. So my question is: Is this a requirement for me and am I considered acquisition? She said that it could be a typo on my job announcement.

    Answer

Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification requirements are governed by DoD Instruction 5000.66 “Defense Acquisition Workforce Education, Training, Experience, and Career Development Program”, which is available at  https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/500066p.PDF?ver=pe7EZCOHpkSCIL9bQJEAtQ%3D%3D . The former life cycle logistics functional area certification Levels 1,2, and 3 were disestablished in February 2022 with the launch of the Back-to-Basics transformation initiative and replaced by two categories (Foundational and Advanced outlined in Table 4 of the DoD Instruction). Detailed information on mandatory certification requirements for the Life Cycle Logistics functional area's Foundational tier are available at https://icatalog.dau.edu/onlinecatalog/CareerCertGuides.aspx?lvl=1&cfld=7. The the LCL Advanced Tier requirements are outlined at https://icatalog.dau.edu/onlinecatalog/CareerCertGuides.aspx?lvl=3&cfld=7. For additional information on Back-to-Basics, visit https://www.dau.edu/back-to-basics website. Detailed information for the life cycle logistics functional area in particular is also available at https://www.dau.edu/back-to-basics/pages/resources.aspx.  If you have questions regarding specific position requirements, recommend discussing with your supervisor, your training office, your human resources staff, or the US Army Acquisition Support Center (USAASC) https://asc.army.mil/web/.
