Is the third tier required to have a CAGE code?
Prime contractors will have a Commercial and Government Entity code (CAGE code) because it is part of Contractor's Central Registration(CCR) process mandated in FAR Subpart 4.11. If a contract does not require CCR, DFARS makes the Contracting Office responsible for asking Defense Logistics Information Service(DLIS) to assign a CAGE code. This code, as well as others mentioned in DFARS 204.7201, are described as a means for the Contracting Office to identify an offeror. DoD 4000.25-5-M prescribes the use of CAGE codes and again, the contractor is referenced in terms of an offeror. There is not a requirement for a CAGE code at any level of subcontractor.
