The Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is ranked No. 17 in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online Engineering Graduate Programs 2022 rankings, climbing one spot from last year. This is the sixth-consecutive year that engineering’s online program has ranked in the Top 25.

Additionally, Auburn’s civil engineering program jumped to No. 5 within the online engineering specialty rankings, moving up six spots from 2021. Three other specialties also made the Top 20 – mechanical at No. 11, industrial and systems at No. 14, and engineering management at No. 17. The online computer science and software engineering program ranked No. 31.

Auburn Engineering ranked No. 11 among online programs for veterans. Application fees are waived for active duty personnel.

“The need to deliver an exceptional online experience has been amplified in recent years, especially since the pandemic, and I’m proud to say that we are meeting the challenge,” said Christopher B. Roberts, former dean of engineering and now president of Auburn University. “We continue to offer the highest-quality online programs that mirror traditional classroom experiences. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering produces some of the nation’s most fundamentally sound engineers who are prepared to enter the workforce and are dedicated to solving problems that impact lives and drive our economy.”

Auburn Engineering Online offers 14 fully online master’s degrees and 16 graduate certificates, with 10 new programs added in the past two years. The newest online master’s degrees are the Master of Science in Data Science and Engineering and the interdisciplinary Master of Engineering. Programs currently being developed include a systems engineering graduate certificate as well as a manufacturing graduate certificate, which will allow a student to earn Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification in addition to gaining valuable knowledge about lean processes and continuous improvement.

Online graduate student enrollment has grown steadily since 2017, increasing more than 70 percent from spring 2020 to fall 2021.

In addition to its award-winning online programs, Auburn Engineering is also home to the nationally recognized McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security; three designated Centers of Excellence by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency; and the National Center for Asphalt Technology, which works with the pavement industry to ensure our nation’s highways are durable, sustainable, quiet, safe, and economical.
