CCON 002, Business Foundations Credential has Deployed!

Renee Butler

The purpose of this credential is to help prepare acquisition workforce members meet the economic threats to our nation, by providing a more sophisticated understanding of how the broad business markets work, and how those pressures influence the behavior of our industry partners when negotiating deals with the government. The credential consists of the following assets:

  • An Introductory Video of senior leaders explaining why this credential is important, especially in relation to the National Defense Strategy.
  • Two Ground Based Strategic Deterrent Program videos on how the program used Business Foundation concepts to formulate their contracting and negotiations strategy.
  • A webinar from Mr. Phil McManus on Meeting Warfighters' Requirements While Achieving Industry Financial Goals
  • Financial Accounting Fundamentals (Coursera Course – UVA Darden School of Business)
  • Corporate Finance I: Measuring and Promoting Value Creation (Coursera Course – University of Illinois)
  • CON 7200V – Better Business Deals. A 5-day virtual instructor-led course where students will gain an understanding of important financial concepts such as:
    • How industry measures and tracks financial performance
    • How industry is motivated by financial returns
    • How industry builds managerial incentives around financial returns
    • How government contracting affects industry returns
    • How government can improve industry returns without increasing government’s purchase prices
    • How government and industry can become more effective negotiating partners
    • Where information (current and historic) can be found in support of these concepts

During CON 7200V, students will assume the role of a CFO in a computer-based business simulation. By making decisions about potential business and investment opportunities, students will gain an enhanced understanding of industry.

  • CON 1770V – RED TEAM Negotiations. This 3-day virtual instructor led capstone course will allow students use these business concepts to prepare for and conduct successful negotiations.
