The Defense Systems Management College Turns 50!

Bill Kobren
Congratulations to our colleagues at the Defense Systems Management College (DSMC) as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their founding this week! Originally established as the Defense Systems Management School (DSMS), according to an excellent history of DAU, “the first DSMS Commandant, Brigadier General Winfield S. Scott III, USA, presided at opening ceremonies at Fort Belvoir, Virginia on August 3, 1971. At the ceremony Deputy Secretary of Defense David Packard spoke about an Academy of Management of “high distinction” where the best of modern management practices would be taught.” The legacy of DAU can be traced back to the establishment of what would become DSMC on that day a half a century ago this week. Happy 50th anniversary, DSMC!
