The DoD Inspector General (IG) yesterday released two important documents of interest to our workforce. Specifically, the IG issued their:

• Fiscal Year 2020 Top DoD Management Challenges. “The Top DoD Management Challenges document summarizes what the DoD OIG annually identifies as the most significant management challenges facing the DoD for FY 2020 and beyond. Each Inspector General is required by law to prepare this annual statement summarizing what the IG considers the ‘most serious management and performance challenges facing the agency.’“
• Fiscal Year 2020 Oversight Plan. “The Oversight Plan describes the specific oversight projects the DoD OIG intends to conduct in FY 2020, and how those projects are related to the top management challenges facing the DoD. The Oversight Plan and Top DoD Management Challenges documents are related.”

While all ten areas are vitally important, items number five, eight, and nine should be of particular interest for life cycle logisticians and product support managers:

• Financial Management: Implementing Timely and Effective Actions to Address Financial Management Weaknesses Identified During the First DoD-Wide Financial Statement Audit. “To assist the DoD in its efforts to improve program performance and enhance operations, the DoD OIG has 46 planned and 30 ongoing oversight projects that relate to Financial Management.”
• Improving Supply Chain Management and Security. “To assist the DoD in its efforts to improve program performance and enhance operations, the DoD OIG has eight planned and three ongoing oversight projects that relate to supply chain management.”
• Acquisition and Contract Management: Ensuring that the DoD Gets What It Pays For On Time, at a Fair Price, and With the Right Capabilities. “To assist the DoD in its efforts to improve program performance and enhance operations, the DoD OIG has 29 planned and 35 ongoing oversight projects that relate to Acquisition and Contract Management.”
