Several weeks back I shared insights in a LOG Blog post entitled “Coming Soon – IPS Element Based Logistics Credentials!” into the fifteen planned no-cost, integrated product support (IPS)-element-based life cycle logistics credentials, which will include:
  • CLCL 001 Product Support Management Fundamentals
  • CLCL 002 Integrated Product Support
  • CLCL 003 Supply Chain Integration
  • CLCL 004 Maintenance Planning & Management
  • CLCL 005 Supportability & Design Interface
  • CLCL 006 Designing Supportable Systems
  • CLCL 007 Product Support Analysis
  • CLCL 008 Product Support Arrangements
  • CLCL 009 Information Technology Life Cycle Support
  • CLCL 010 Technical Data Management
  • CLCL 011 Product Support Affordability & Cost Fundamentals
  • CLCL 012 Product Support O&S Cost Estimating
  • CLCL 013 Packaging, Handling, Storage & Transportation (PHS&T)
  • CLCL 014 Parts & Material Life Cycle Management
  • CLCL 015 Product Support Infrastructure

At the risk of violating the first rule of journalism ("never bury the lede"), wanted to let the life cycle logistics community-- and indeed the entire defense acquisition workforce --know that the first of the fifteen planned new life cycle logistics credentials, namely CLCL 009 Information Technology Life Cycle Support , has deployed and is now available for student registration. Several additional product support-focused credentials are anticipate to deploy in the coming weeks.

The purpose of this new interdisciplinary credential -- again just the first of fourteen others to follow -- is to reinforce concepts that are foundational to achieving optimal IT Systems Continuous Support by increasing credential recipients' ability to identify, plan, resource and acquire the facilities, hardware, software, firmware, documentation, manpower and personnel necessary for planning and conducting lifecycle management of computer hardware and software systems. It supports and aligns with the Information Technology Systems Continuous Support IPS Element outlined in Appendix A of the DoD Product Support Manager Guidebook and the Life Cycle Logistics Competencies.
