GAO Report on DoD Business Reform Efforts
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a new report of potential interest earlier this week entitled “GAO-19-666 Defense Management: Observations on DOD's Business Reform Efforts and Plan”.
According to the GAO, “Congress required the Department of Defense to develop a plan to increase efficiency and effectiveness by reforming certain business operations, such as logistics, human resources, and contracting. We reviewed DOD’s reform plan and found that it contained the required schedule and cost estimates. However, many of its initiatives are preliminary—intended to collect information for later reforms.”
The GAO went on to say “This makes it hard to assess the feasibility of future reforms. In addition, we could not validate DOD’s claims of cost savings related to business reforms it has already made. DOD continues to work on the recommendations we made in 3 prior reports.”
