Life Cycle Logistics Workforce Demographic Information

Bill Kobren

Did you know that the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (A&S) Human Capital initiatives (HCI) office maintains a very handy “Workforce Metrics” page on their website? Did you also know that this site contains individual Functional Career Field Information Summaries for each defense acquisition workforce functional area, including a comprehensive, informative, and detailed synopsis for the life cycle logistics functional area entitled “Life Cycle Logistics DAW Information Summary”? Virtually any demographic date you could possibly be interested in is readily available.

A few interesting factoids:

  • The data is as of the end of FY21; updates are pending completion of component reviews of workforce position coding following Back-to-Basics implementation earlier this year.
  • Life cycle logistics is the third largest functional area
  • There are literally dozens of civilian occupational series represented in the life cycle logistics workforce; this means that all life cycle logisticians do not have to be from the 0346 series, nor are all DoD 0346 positions actually coded as members of the defense acquisition workforce.
  • There are over 1,000 uniformed military personnel from the Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, and Navy assigned to acquisition coded life cycle logistics workforce positions.
