New DAU Product Support Affordability & Cost Credential

Bill Kobren
We are pleased to announce the deployment today of the third in our ever-growing portfolio of fifteen planned Integrated Product Support (IPS) Element-based DAU life cycle logistics credentials, namely “CLCL 011 Product Support Affordability & Cost Fundamentals”.

This new interdisciplinary credential brings together seven logistics, business, and acquisition on-line training (OLT) courses, multiple DoD guidebooks and several DAU ACQuipedia articles to build a holistic view of the linkage between Product Support Management and the budget build process. A capstone exercise and summative examination must be completed to demonstrate the learner’s ability to:
  • Define Operating & Support Cost KSA, one of the Life Cycle Sustainment Outcome Metrics, and how it is communicated in decision-making.
  • Explain Defense Working Capital Fund (DWCF) budgeting & analysis principles.
  • Identify characteristics to prepare and submit budget requests for product support activities across the system life cycle
  • Relate the Product Support Business Case Analysis to the budget process.
  • Differentiate between the use of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Total Ownership Cost (TOC).
  • Describe the role the PM/PSM has in the process for proper financial accounting treatment for military equipment (PFAT4ME).

While developed to support DoD life cycle logisticians and product support managers, personnel from all defense acquisition workforce functional areas – including business/financial managers, cost estimators, and program managers -- are highly encouraged to consider taking this new credential.

With two more product support-focused credentials slated to deploy in the next several weeks, as of today, we now have three fielded logistics credentials available:
