As long-time readers of this blog are aware, the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (AFSPC) publishes a handbook entitled “Acquiring and Enforcing the Government’s Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software Under Department of Defense Contracts: A Practical Handbook for Acquisition Professionals.” The newly released 8th Edition (dated May 2017) was just released and a downloadable PDF copy is available on the DAU Logistics Community of Practice LOG CoP under the Technical Data Integrated Product Support (IPS) Element section. This handbook is designed to provide defense acquisition and sustainment professionals across the Department of Defense with a practical handbook to acquiring technical data and computer software rights.

As a side note, I shared additional insights in an October blog post into the breadth and depth of related resources DAU offers the defense acquisition workforce on these important topics in a blog post entitled “Integrated Suite of Product Support Resources (Part IX) – Technical Data & Intellectual Property”.

June 2, 2017 Update: DAU today launched a NextGen-enabled version of this new guidebook at https://www.dau.mil/tools/t/TDR-GB. This new capability provides workforce members with a range of new features, including access on desktop, laptop or mobile device, bookmarking and note taking, downloadable eBook version, as well as HTML and PDF.
