New JKO Operational Contract Support Training

Bill Kobren
Wanted to pass on an announcement from our Joint Staff colleagues advising that a new “Operational Contract Support I – Leveraging Commercial Capabilities Across the Competition Continuum (Course Number J4OP-US3801)” training course is available on Joint Knowledge Online (JKO).

This new online training course is the first in a planned suite of four Operational Contract Support (OCS) online courses. “As the first in the series, OCS I illuminates the scope and scale of commercial capabilities, and the importance of deliberately planning for those capabilities, in support of military operations across the competition continuum. This includes balancing reliance, risks/opportunities, and resilience of commercial partners’ support to total force operations across increasingly complex and all-domain, contested environments. Because commercial capability considerations affect the tactical to the strategic levels, OCS I is appropriate for personnel in operational or acquisition roles as well as those in strategy, policy, education and training, and other force development or design positions. The course discusses strategy, guidance, authorities, and strategic implications of reliance on commercial capabilities. OCS I concludes by introducing how DOD plans for and harnesses potential commercial capability through the doctrinal OCS process, which will be covered in more detail in the OCS II – OCS Fundamentals course.”

When completed in late-2023, this four-course JKO suite will include:
  • OCS I – Leveraging Commercial Capabilities Across the Competition Continuum
  • OCS II – OCS Fundamentals course
  • OCS III – Planning and Coordinating Responsibilities for Staffs
  • OCS IV – Planning and Executing Responsibilities for OCS Practitioners

Additionally, our DAU contracting colleagues also offer a wide range of learning assets on the subject of contingency contracting, including:
