Last November I shared information about and insights into the “Newly Released ASD(S) Sustainment Strategic Plan”. Today I’d like to take a moment of your time to deep-dive into the October 2021 “Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment’s Logistics & Materiel Readiness Strategic Plan” Goal 2 (Deliver cost effective materiel readiness to meet the DoD’s warfighting requirements, Objective 2.1 (to Expand and optimize sustainment data integration), and in particular Line of Effort (LOE) 2.1.1: to “develop & integrate logistics and Mission Support Sustainment Health Metrics IAW DoD Data Strategy/Executive Data Analytics Map (DoD Data Strategy September 2020).”

The most current status available comes from the USD(A&S) 2021 Acquisition and Sustainment Annual Report, “Sustainment Business Health Metrics. During the last two quarters of the year, OASD(S) made significant progress in developing DSD-directed business health metrics in support of the Logistics and Mission Support focus area. With partners across the Department, health metrics are being refined to provide senior leaders with data-driven insights to quickly and efficiently track performance, identify strategic sustainment issues, and develop solutions. In alignment with strategic priorities, the program is moving towards automation. DoD Instruction 3110.05, Sustainment Health Metrics in Support of Materiel Availability, is being revised concurrently to codify these metrics across DoD and set to be published in 2022.”
