A Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) is defined as “a DD Form 1423 list of contract data requirements that are authorized for a specific acquisition and made a part of the contract. It is the standard format for identifying potential data requirements in a solicitation and deliverable data requirements in a contract. The CDRL provides a contractual method to direct the contractor to prepare and deliver data that meets specific approval and acceptance criteria. (Source: DAU Glossary of Defense Acronyms and Terms). A related topic, Data Item Descriptions (DID) are defined as “a standardization document that defines the data required of a contractor. The DID specifically defines the data content, format, and intended use”. (Source: Defense Standardization Program).
