Product Support, Servicing, and Maintenance in Space?
Encourage you to check out a Space Blog post from our DAU Program Management colleagues entitled “The Future of Space Logistics is Here.” Powerfully reinforces a subject I’ve discussed several times before, including in a March 2020 LOG Blog post entitled “Servicing on-Orbit Satellites Robotically”.
Two related references of potential interest include DARPA’s Consortium for Execution of Rendezvous and Servicing Operations (CONFERS) site, as well as the industry-led CONFERS satellite servicing community website.
Finally, as I shared in an earlier 2019 post, would also encourage big-picture thinkers among you to consider the potential applications and implications of merging space systems, robotic repair, maintenance, and servicing concepts with other rapidly evolving technologies such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), prognostics and health management (PHM), artificial intelligence and machine learning. What do you think these capabilities will look like a decade from now? How can they be synergistically aligned and integrated going forward? What do you think the risk, implications or unintended consequences of such approaches would look like from a life cycle cost or long-term capability perspective?
