US Marine Corps "Technical Data 102" Training

Bill Kobren
Back in January, I shared information from the Director of the Marine Corps Systems Command’s Acquisition Logistics & Product Support (ALPS) office about new Life Cycle Logistics-focused Computer Based Training (CBT) courses available on their Marine Net Moodle platform.

In addition to the previously released “Product Support Management (PSM) 101” MarineNet CBT course, our USMC colleagues have advised that a second training course in the series entitled “Technical Data 102” is now available! Technical Data 102 is an online, scenario based course designed to simulate real-life challenges and questions that an acquisition workforce member can face as a program navigates through the acquisition process. According to the ALPS Director, “the target audience is all acquisition workforce members on the basic principles and requirements of Technical Data. We anticipate updating and changing the course scenarios periodically to incorporate recommendations and suggestions.”

In his guidance to the MARCORSYSCOM life cycle logistics community, the ALPS Director goes on to say that their new course "is not DAU Training. Technical Data 102 bridges the gap between (DoD) and USMC processes. The purpose is to help you connect the generalized training provided by DAU to how we actually apply it day-to-day at MARCORSYSCOM and PEO Land Systems…I encourage everyone in the LCL competency (regardless of series) to take this Course. I also encourage you to recommend this overview course to your team members in other competencies so they may gain a better understanding of what you do.”

Planned releases this year include:
  • Product Support Management (PSM) 101 (Available January 2020)
  • Technical Data 102 (Available April 2020)
  • Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP) CBT
  • Fielding CBT
  • Independent Logistics Assessment (ILA) CBT
  • Supply Support (SS) CBT
  • CATALYST CBT
  • Manpower, Personnel & Training Support (MPT) CBT
  • Information Technology Systems Continuous Support (ITSCS) CBT

In order to sign up for these two MARCORSYSCOM ALPS training courses, users must first obtain a MarineNet Account. MarineNet can be accessed at: https://marinenet.usmc.mil. If you don't already have an account, click on the "Sign Up for a New MarineNet Account" link and follow the instructions. As a job aid, the ALPS team has posted an overview video on the ALPS Knowledge Center that provides more detailed instruction on accessing MarineNet and searching for an ALPS CBT course. For ease of access, we have also posted a copy of the “MarineNet Moodle” overview video in the Life Cycle Logistics Channel of our DAU Video Library.

In addition, DAU also offers a range of related technical data management learning assets including:
