There is a wide variety of training available to the workforce on Data Analytics and Management.  DAU's partnership with commercial providers provides extensive hands on technical courses and application labs where students learn use the latest analytics tools.  Please also find links to ADVANA U for training on its platform. 


 

Defense Acquisition University (DAU)
  • Data Analytics for DoD Acquisition Managers (CCENG 002A) Created for mid-level acquisition managers across functional areas, you’ll dive into the fundamentals of data science, methodologies, team building and project management within a DoD context. Emphasis is placed on developing and using data with integrity, conveying the data using data analytics and visualization and using the information to make data-based acquisition decisions.
  • Excel Skills for Data Analytics and Visualization Credential (CCON016) Through these courses, you’ll put together a comprehensive toolkit for transforming, linking and analyzing data, culminating in the exploration of real-world DoD applications. From proposal analysis to showcasing best practices in data acquisition, you’ll understand the vital role of data analytics and visualization in informing decision-making within the Defense domain.
  • Technical Data Management (LOG 2150) This Online Training (OLT) course provides on-the-job methods, tools and processes to manage the technical data from the development of a weapon system to sustainment. Course includes hands-on simulations, videos, and lessons learned to enable you to perform the work tasks/duties for proper technical data management across the Adaptive Acquisition Framework pathways.
  • Data Analytics Fundamentals for Product Support (LOG 0600) Data Analytics Fundamentals for Product Support provides a knowledge base for Life Cycle Logisticians (LCLs) to understand how data analytics, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications can optimize product support outcomes across the integrated product support elements.
  • Operations and Support Cost Data Science (BCE 0020) Provides an introduction to how data science impacts Operating and Support (O&S) cost estimating. Students learn how data can improve the accuracy of a cost estimate. Learners are introduced to the databases that are used to ascertain data that supports the development of O&S cost estimates.
  • Data Management Strategy Development (CLM 072)
  • Data Management Protection and Storage (CLM 077) This course explains the vital role Data Protection and Storage play in a major weapon system acquisition program.
  • Commercial Training from DAU- Provided at no charge to DoD members

Advana University

Advana University is a self service, web based training program that offers users an overview of foundational data, analytics and AI concepts and then teaches them how to apply those concepts using tools and products on ADVANA.  ADVANA U currently offers two training plans and is working to design and develop several more.

Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) 
  • Fundamentals of Data Management (SYS 110).  Learn the fundamental principles of Data Management and the importance of DM in an integrated product team. Learn about topics such as CDRLs & DIDs.
  • Introduction to Data Analytics (DAS 101)     An introduction to data analytic terms and concepts. Students are shown how to acquire data, conduct basic analysis, and leverage data to better inform data-driven decision making. Although this course is designed as a stand- alone course, it will also serve as a springboard to more advanced courses on data management and data analysis.

Students will gain a basic understanding of conducting statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel® and several representative case studies/exercises on using data analytics to describe, diagnose, and predict various operations management challenges. Students will learn how to manipulate a large data set, including d descriptive statistics, pivot tables, charting and visualization techniques, formulas, text manipulation, data tables, concatenation, and parsing.
  • Data Analytics for Senior Leaders (WKS 0669) This workshop explores the taxonomy of data analytics capabilities and the organizational maturity levels associated with its deployment. This strategic capability is surveyed through a systems approach to examine the implementation of data analytics competencies for various levels of the organization.

The GEIA-859 standard is now part of the SAE collection of standards.  It is referred to as GEIA859A, and is available for purchase from SAE at:

http://standards.sae.org/geia859a/

As of June, 2017, this standard is under revision by the Enterprise Information and Data Management Committee, and the new version (Rev. B) will be available at the end of CY2017 or the beginning of CY2018.

Some of the Department of Defense’s (DOD) weapon systems remain in the inventory for decades. Therefore, decisions that program officials make during the acquisition process to acquire or not acquire rights to technical data, which may cost $1 billion, can have far-reaching implications for DOD’s ability to sustain and competitively procure parts and services for those systems. GAO recommends that DOD (1) update policies to clarify its technical-data documentation requirements and (2) instruct program managers on the elements to include and the information to report for technical-data business-case analyses.
