Standard Corrosion Rating Process for Acft and Tool for Managing Data
An initial pilot project was completed in 2007 which brought together engineering and evaluation (E&E) and material condition inspection (MCI) personnel in an attempt to identify areas where corrosion inspections are misaligned and to improve communications between the two groups. The F/A-18 pilot MCI/E&E inspection bore superb results in aligning Type Wing and E&E processes. From this pilot effort a prototype standardized grading system was developed for the F/A-18 and E-2 platforms. This system is planned to be used as a baseline material condition assessment to be made for all aircraft and lead to the ability to assess the status of the fleet with a common metric.
