I am looking for anyone who can tell me, is it possible to forecast DMSMS/Obsolescence without hiring or contracting out an entity that has a sotware program to do so? I am trying to see if we at the PM can start forecasting, without having to bring on an outside agency to pull reports for us!
I also am interested in joining the DoD WG Team Page, but I cannot find the area to register here.
We are currently putting a DMSMS team together and I am seeking advice in regard to what qualifications our team should have. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
I am looking for a simple, 1 page, survey to send out to OEMs to capture their lifecycle intent on parts. Questions like: is the part at the end of it's lifecycle, how much longer does the OEM plan on manufacturing the part, etc.
Does anyone have one they would be willing to share?

I am currently building a DMS/MS program. We are developing Lexicon to use throughout the Coast Guard to hopefully build a standard framework. What I am requesting the community possibly help me with is vetting what I have developed. During my DAU training, I have found these terms but as I developed these terms, I have not been able to find the reference.
The terms are below:
If I place an OEM on contract and their subcontractor goes out of business or has an obsolete part, shouldn't the OEM be responsible for funding the fix or does it rely on the Government?

Even though Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) assemblies are becoming more common in defense systems, there are no standard procedures used by the parts management community (both Industry and Government) to select COTS assemblies. To address this problem, the DoD Parts Management Working Group formed a Strategic Objective team to examine the problems associated with choosing and using electronic COTS assemblies and to evaluate implementing common procedures for selecting electronic COTS assemblies throughout the entire program lifecycle. Over a two-year period, this Team has successfully researched and developed a checklist for selecting electronic COTS assemblies for use in safety critical or mission critical Aerospace, Defense, High Performance, and Space applications. This checklist has undergone peer review and is scheduled to be rolled out in late 2021.

Team--Need some guidance. We are in the LRIP phase, and have been notified of DMS issues requiring end-of-life buys. The problem is, we need to buy enough to also support the quantities that will be installed in full rate production (through 2031), but do not yet have a FRP decision (~2024). Has anyone had to request authority to buy that far ahead of need? This buy would avoid very costly redesigns, so it seems like the obvious choice, but I can't find anything on HOW to get this ball rolling to get approval. Thanks in advance! The Sustainment Symposium 2020 hosted by GDCA in December was a special virtual symposium focused on the journey from obsolescence management to legacy sustainment. This symposium aimed to pulled together leading minds across the DoD supply chain highlighting their relevant sustainment experiences and exploring what could happen when we begin to focus on sustainment as the objective.

Management, the first issuance of a DoD Diminishing
Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) instruction since 1976.
The long-awaited instruction released by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment effectively gave credence to decades of self-governance within the multi-functional discipline of DMSMS and the importance of continued effective and consistent management is clear.
