2017 OSD PBL Component Level Award - Tire Performance Based Logistics Team - USN
The Navy Tire PBL Team is recognized for its innovative approach to managing the Navy Aviation Tires logistics supply chain. The four-year contract arrangement with Lockheed Martin as the single logistics integrator afforded the Navy/Marine supply chain the benefit of having a single point of accountability for all operations affecting fleet support, including requirements forecasting, inventory and retrograde management, and storage and transportation. The strategy synchronized production with fleet support demands and the logistics provider, creating a cost-effective, streamlined supply chain. Navy aircraft tire readiness remained at its highest level ever, with 100 percent of all requisitions filled and over 20,500 tires delivered worldwide since 2016. This performance consistently exceeded the on-time delivery metric of 95 percent, with the most recent reporting period showing on-time performance rates of 98.3 percent. The reinvented tire supply chain delivered $24.3 million in cost avoidances. Improved delivery times have enabled the Navy to reduce retail tire allowance levels at shore facilities by 66 percent, from 4,769 to 1,626 tires, with an associated savings of $1.7 million. The Navy Tire PBL reflects the Navy's strong dedication to improve sustainment to the Warfighter.
