Understanding Industry

This classroom (CLRM) course covers a wide range of business acumen competencies including industry orientation, organization, cost and financial planning, business strategy/development, supplier management, incentives, and negotiating strategies. Business skills will be learned on aligning company strategies, finances, and operations that motivate company decisions to meet their business goals, gain fair and reasonable profits, while providing best taxpayer value to the government on defense products.

REQUIRED PREREQUISITES

Required: None. However, this course is designed for students already at or seeking advanced certification (Legacy DAWIA Level III). Students should also have a minimum of 3-4 years' experience working with defense industry.

PREDECESSOR COURSES

TARGET AUDIENCE

DAWIA Advanced (Legacy Level III) certified acquisition personnel across all DAWIA functional areas. Students will come from a wide range of functional backgrounds.

  • Negotiating, by Harvard Manage Mentor (Note: Course is not available to Industry).

  • For PM Students: PMT 3500, Business Aspects or SBP 301, Small Business for Senior Leaders
  • For BFM Students: BFM 3000, Advanced Acquisition Financial Management

  • For T&E Students: TST 2040, Test and Evaluation for Practitioners
