Welcome to Software Configuration Management (SCM) Tool Selection. When developing a Software Factory environment where you are performing continuous integration/continuous delivery/deployment, you need automated configuration management tools to keep pace with the constantly changing code. Automated Software Configuration Management (SCM) is an automation process that involves conducting various maintenance tasks repetitively to ensure that software functions properly. The goal of this process is to track and manage changes in software, ensure consistency, automate processes, and improve software development and maintenance. This Online Training (OLT) micro-course will help you better understand what SCM tool attributes you need to look for when acquiring SCM tools. Note that DoD does not recommend any vendor tools, even Open-Source Software (OSS) as you need to decide for yourself what best fits your warfighter needs.
