2023 Secretary of Defense Product Support Manager Award Call for Nominations

The Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Dr. William A. LaPlante is encouraging nominations for the 2023 Secretary of Defense Product Support Manager Award Nominations. In a May 15, 2023, memo, LaPlante stated that “… as a critical program position in delivering weapon system readiness affordably and effectively, the PSM [product support manager] is the program manager’s expert on sustainment planning, responsible for implementing product support capabilities that affordably achieve the requirements for system availability. This award recognizes PSM contributions to controlling cost within affordability caps, promoting industry competition and innovation, and implementing effective product support strategies.”

DoD Announces Winners of the 2023 Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS 
DoD has announced the Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards winners for 2023. The awards recognize installations, teams, and individuals for their accomplishments in innovative and cost-effective environmental management strategies supporting mission readiness. (Read more)

DoD Announces Fiscal Year 2023 Research Awards to Minority-Serving Institutions

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS 
On May 3, DoD announced awards totaling $61.7 million to 82 university researchers under the Fiscal Year 2023 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MSI) Research and Education Program. Individual awards of up to $800,000 will support research projects in defense priority areas at 50 institutions, including 12 HBCUs and 38 MSIs across 18 states and the District of Columbia. NRL Recognized With FLC Innovation Award in Technology Transfer

U.S. NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS

Small Businesses Are Heartbeat of U.S. Economy, Says DoD Leader

DEFENSE LOGISTICS AGENCY NEWS 
Recent data from the Defense Logistics Agency shows positive news about the nation’s small businesses. Over the last two years, 10.5 million Americans applied to start small businesses and created 3.5 million jobs, which are record highs, said Farooq Mitha, director of the Defense Department’s Office of Small Business Programs. Make It Where You Need It: OSD Program Funds Technology to Enable Point-of-Need Manufacturing

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS  
The Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Technology Program (OSD ManTech) has announced the winners of the first-of-its-kind “Point of Need Challenge Pitch Event” for solutions to support forward-deployed forces in austere environments. Held March 8-9 at the ARM Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa., the event showcased technologies generated by member companies of the Department of Defense Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (MIIs). DoD launched nine MIIs between 2012 and 2021, each of them focused on a particular critical technology to help revitalize U.S. domestic manufacturing capability. (Read more)

DoD Announces Awards Under the Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research

DoD announced $18 million in Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) awards to 28 collaborative academic teams.
