Speaker: Emily Harman
Emily Harman has 34 years of service to her country as both a Naval Officer and civilian federal employee, retiring as a member of the Senior Executive Service in 2019.
Upon retiring, Emily founded a small business, Emily Harman Coaching and Consulting, LLC. Her clients include Positive Intelligence, LLC, where she serves as the U.S. Government Account Director. In her role, she brings Positive Intelligence (PQ) to U.S. government organizations through partnerships, presentations, and the flagship PQ program. She also supports the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation as an Executive Coach.
Emily developed her signature Onward Accelerator Coaching Program for individuals seeking transformation at a deep level in all areas of their lives. Emily helps her clients transform their dreams into reality so they can create a life they love while achieving new heights of authentic success.
Prior to becoming a Certified Professional Coach, Emily was the Director of the Department of the Navy's Office of Small Business Programs where she served as the chief advisor to the Secretary of the Navy on all small business matters. She was responsible for small business acquisition policy and strategic initiatives, Under Emily’s leadership, the Navy and Marine Corps obligated $15.3 billion to small businesses directly supporting the mission as prime contractors in fiscal year 2018, exceeding the previous year’s performance by $2.2 billion.
Prior to working in Small Business Programs, Emily served as a Contracting Officer with an unlimited warrant for the Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Supply Systems Command. She gained extensive experience in contracting and acquisition of complex major weapon systems and similarly large service acquisitions.
Emily served on active duty and in the reserves as a Naval Officer, retiring as a Commander. She was one of the first two officers on the U.S.S. Emory S. Land, AS-39 to earn the Supply Corps Surface Warfare Pin and the second female Naval Academy graduate to serve as a Company Officer.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Emily holds a Master’s Degree in Acquisition and Contract Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. She’s Level III Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certified in Contracting and Small Business.
She’s a Certified Positive Intelligence® Coach and certified as a Professional Coach and Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. She’s also certified through the International Coaching Federation.
Emily is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Leadership Southern Maryland, and Navy programs at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Emily is a contributing author to two #1 best-sellers: Becoming a GovCon Expert, and Step into the Spotlight.
Emily resides in Staunton, Virginia where she loves to hike and camp. She spends her free time making pottery with her mom, listening to her dad play the piano, and making memories with her grown children and grandson.
