In this Webcast, CAPT Brad Baker, Associate Professor at the United States Naval Academy and Director of MakerSpaceUSNA, will review details of designing, building, and maintaining a large Additive Manufacturing (AM) laboratory. CAPT Baker will discuss training of future Navy and Marine Corps Officers over the last 7 years on AM from a wide variety of disciplines. Additionally, CAPT Baker will review several AM projects including using a custom AM approach for radiation detection applications, using both AM and 3D scanning for reverse engineering and other applications, metal coating of polymer printed components, and several other student projects. Finally, CAPT Baker will discuss possible future applications of AM and energetics for military applications.

    Who Should Attend:

DoD Acquisition Cross-Functional Teams (Government and Industry)

CAPT Brad Baker, Permanent Military Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, United States Naval Academy

CAPT Brad Baker enlisted in the Navy in 1988 and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1994. His operational assignments included tours on USS MIAMI, Engineering Officer on USS LOUISIANA and USS NORTH CAROLINA, and Executive Officer on USS PHILADELPHIA. CAPT Baker has over twenty-two years of experience in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program including qualification on six different reactor plants ranging from Mechanical Operator on one of the oldest plant designs to initial manning Engineering Officer on the newest submarine reactor plant. In 2010 he was selected as a Permanent Military Professor, and he currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department teaching nuclear and mechanical engineering classes. In 2016 CAPT Baker started MakerSpaceUSNA which is a modern student-oriented design space where students all of all backgrounds can bring their designs to life using an array of modern design and 3D printing capabilities.
