    Event Moderator: Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Product Support, OSD

    Ms. Smith, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Product Support and serves as the principal advisor to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) leadership on policies, procedures, and actions related to the readiness and sustainability of major weapon systems. She is responsible for the development and implementation of acquisition and sustainment strategies and processes providing the Warfighter with cost-effective weapon system readiness across the life cycle. In addition, Ms. Smith coordinates and synchronizes ASD(S) international and partner engagements. She also manages the logistics and acquisition workforce for the Department of Defense.  She assumed her current position in April 2021.

    Kurt W. Webb joined DAU in 2010 as Professor of Contracting. He transitioned to Course Manager and Developer of Acquisition Law before moving to focus solely on Intellectual Property. Prior to joining DAU, Mr. Webb held varying positions with both commercial and defense corporations over the past 25 years. In his last position as Vice President, Corporate Compliance, he was responsible for in-house legal matters, all functions relating to the commercial and defense acquisition process; import/export, and human resources.

    Mark Dvorscak

    Professor of Acquisition Management, DAU

    Mark Dvorscak is a Professor of Acquisition Management for Intellectual Property (IP), providing support to DAU Executive training programs including PMT 4010 and PMT 4020 as well as IP advice and counsel through mission support to DoD organizations. In addition, Professor Dvorscak serves as a Faculty Advisor for the Executive Courses at DSMC and is an Executive Coach. He previously served as NASA’s Agency Counsel for IP at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., providing agency-level leadership and policy direction on all aspects of IP law and IP asset management. Prior to NASA, Professor Dvorscak served as an attorney in the Office of Patent Counsel for the US Department of Energy. He is a member of the Indiana Bar and a registered patent attorney.
