Dr. Karin Warner (CAPT, USN, ret.) Is a Visiting Professor at DAU, is a full professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia, with a secondary appointment at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Dr. Warner served 34 years in the United States Navy in numerous clinical and leadership positions and earned a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Duke University, a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the U.S. National War College with a concentration in weapons of mass destruction (WMD), a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, dual Master of Science Degrees in Medical-Surgical Nursing and Nursing Health Policy as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Maryland. She has an advanced certificate in health and public policy and completed a two-year legislative Fellowship on Capitol Hill. She is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and in addition to teaching at Pitt, leads Diplomacy Lab student research groups in partnership with the U.S. State Department. Area Focus:  Africa.   

Dr. Sean McFate is a professor of war at Georgetown University, Syracuse University, and the National Defense University. His career began as a paratrooper and officer in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, and then he became a global private military contractor. He authored The New Rules of War: How America Can Win—Against Russia, China, and Other Threats, named a “Book of the Year” by The Economist. He also authored The Modern Mercenary: Private Armies and What They Mean for World Order which Foreign Affairs called “essential reading.” He has appeared on all major news networks, and is also a novelist, authoring the Tom Locke Series based on his own military experiences. #1 New York Times bestselling author James Patterson calls him: “The next Tom Clancy, only I think he's even better." McFate holds a BA from Brown University, MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Ph.D. in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
