    DESCRIPTION:

Do you demonstrate humility in your workplace?  Humility is the capacity to exhibit personal modesty that comes from understanding our place in the larger order of things. It is also a key ingredient in developing strong relationships. As humans, we are naturally inclined to think our ideas are the best. But this becomes an issue when it keeps someone else from expressing their thoughts or allowing us to reap the benefits of team collaboration. Key to practicing humility is recognizing and admitting there are things we don't know.  This event will help you make the connection between humility and why it is such an important virtue to cultivate for leaders at all levels.

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Anyone wanting to add specific best practices for how they can better show humility in the workplace should definitely attend this webcast.

    The Leading Acquisition Series:
This Series, on the first Wednesday of each month, will help you grow as an acquisition leader.  Building team success; working effectively through others; or spanning team, functional, and organizational boundaries—all will be covered.  DAU's faculty will share the latest thinking on what it means to lead, with practical defense acquisition examples and suggestions on how to apply what you learn at work.  Time in each session will be set aside to answer your questions.

    Moderator:
Ivan Teper, Knowledge Manager, DSMC, DAU

    Speaker:

Dr. Guy Sands-Pingot, Professor of Program Management, CNE, DAU

Dr. Guy Sands-Pingot joined DAU in January 2019 as Professor of Acquisition Management in the DAU DSMC Leadership Center. He previously served as a member of the Senior Executive Service from May 2010 until he retired from full-time government work in September 2018. In December 2010, he completed his Military career as a Brigadier General in the US Army after 32 years of service in both the Active and Reserve Components. Prior to his retirement from the Senior Executive Service in 2018, he developed extensive experience in Financial Oversight, Program Management, Human Capital processes, and Executive Leadership.

Professor Sands holds a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University as well as a Master of Science in International Relations from Troy University; a Master of Arts in Political Economy from Fordham University; a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College; and Post-Graduate Studies in Economics from St. Andrews University, Scotland, as well having earned his Bachelor degree in Political Science from the City College of New York. He is also a graduate of the Defense Acquisition University Army Acquisition Corps Executive Leadership Program; the Defense Systems Management College, Senior Acquisition Management Course; the University of North Carolina, Army Strategic Leadership Development Course; University of North Carolina Program for Executives in Logistics and Technology; and several other Senior Executive programs at the Darden School of Business, the University of Virginia, and the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
