You may think strategy is a waste of time, but Ian submits that without it, you may be wasting your energy and your time! Strategy need not be a stranglehold on project management--it enables a useful top level project view for all, but it must be flexible.  Ian will share practical lessons from three decades in industry alongside several case studies which emphasize the importance of strategy in Obsolescence Management.  He will share views on strategy from well-known business leaders before ending with an unusual way to consider your management of time!

    Ian Blackman

Ian Blackman has worked in the defense sector for more than thirty years in senior Procurement, Component Engineering and Obsolescence Management roles and has a large and varied network from that experience. He has been an active member since the formation of both the Component Obsolescence Group (COG) in the UK and the International Institute of Obsolescence Management (IIOM) internationally. He has twice been the Chairman of the UK chapter, chaired the first IIOM international conference in London in 1999 with joint UK and US sponsorship, and served as the IIOM Chief Technical Officer (CTO) from 2015-2021. Within IIOM he wrote many of the minefield guidance booklets and participated in the earliest generation of standards for Obsolescence Management (OM). He has represented IIOM at industry events and international chapter meetings for more than twenty-five years, and has engaged in the development of many of the international chapters. Since 2015 he has run his own consultancy business, working with more than thirty international customers worldwide on obsolescence and procurement projects. He is happily in semi-retirement but still takes an active interest in IIOM, the markets and industry. Since 2016 Ian has co-owned the Anticounterfeiting Forum, which provides a news channel, a website of resources and organises training and events. He is proud to have been named the first IIOM Fellow in 2021.
