Description:
The October 2022 National Defense Strategy sets the strategic direction of the Department to support U.S. national security aims. Along with defending the homeland, deterring strategic attacks, and deterring aggression, priorities include building a resilient Joint Force and defense ecosystem. What does this strategy mean to those working in defense acquisition? How should we respond? This panel will put the new strategy into context and help answer these questions.

Dr. Glenn Lamartin, Professor of Acquisition Management, DAU, DSMC
Dr. Lamartin is a professor at the Defense Systems Management College (DSMC), adjunct professor at Georgetown's McCourt School of Public Policy, a certified executive coach, and futurist. He is a seasoned acquisition professional with experience as a flight test manager, project engineer, program manager, strategic planner, and senior executive in DoD and industry. Inspiring the leader in each of us is one of his passions. His current work includes developing curricula, teaching defense policy making and leadership, and assisting practitioners in the acquisition community— to span boundaries, make change happen, innovate, accelerate acquisition, and improve outcomes.

LTG(ret), Ross Thompson Senior Acquisition Executive, DAU
Served for 36 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Lieutenant General. Final assignment was serving as the Principal Military Deputy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology), the Army's senior acquisition officer.
Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer from 2010-2015 of an integrated facilities management company with over $700 million in annual revenue and 7,100 employees across the U.S. and in 10 international locations.
Senior Acquisition Executive in-residence on the faculty at the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) since November 2015.
Commissioner from 2016-2019 on statutory panel charged with making recommendations on actionable changes to regulatory and statutory language to improve the Department of Defense acquisition process.
Currently serves on the Boards of Directors/Advisors for four companies focused on defense and commercial research, development, and prototyping.
Mr. Paul Mann, Program Executive Sea Based Weapons and Director, Aegis BMD, Missile Defense Agency
Mr. Paul D. Mann, appointed Senior Executive Service Member (2010), is the Program Executive for Sea-Based Weapon Systems for Missile Defense Agency and Program Director for Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). Recently, Mr. Mann completed his tour as Department of the Navy (DON) Chief Systems Engineer (CHENG) for Assistant Secretary of the Navy Research, Development, and Acquisition (RD&A). Prior to his role as the DON CHENG, Mr. Mann was Division Technical Director for Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). His decorations boast several awards, including the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Rear Adm. Wayne E. Meyer Memorial Award for Acquisition Excellence, and the David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award for JPO MRAP. Mr. Mann earned his MPA degree from American University in Washington, D.C.
