Event Description: Join us as Mr. Dave Busigo discusses the 2023 Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Startegy. With the release of the DoD Small Business Strategy, the acquisition community is looking to find ways to address the challenges facing the industrial base and to improve engagement with small businesses. Despite their significance to the defense mission, the Department of Defense has yet to utilize the full potential of small businesses," writes Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. The strategy outlines three strategic objectives:

Mr. David "Dave" Busigo, Jr., (DoD) Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP)
Mr. David “Dave” Busigo, Jr. is currently assigned as an IPA to the (DoD) Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP). His assignment officially started on June 2022, where he has been assigned as a Senior Advisor to OSBP and is the Director to the Rapid innovation Funds (RIF) Program. Prior to the OSD assignment, Mr. Busigo, joined the Finance organization at ARLIS on August 23, 2021 as a member of the UMD Visiting Faculty after 43 years of service to the Department of Defense. Throughout most of his tenure in the Department, Mr. Busigo, held senior level management positions in a variety of agencies overseeing the budget, finance, acquisition, and policy.
Ken Carkhuff, DAU Small Business Learning Director
Mr. Carkhuff is responsible for leading the life cycle activities of assigned Small Business Professional (SBP) learning assets. He also serves as a professor for all instructor-led SBP courses. He was the first DoD acquisition professional to earn the new DoD Small Business Professional Credential in May 2021.
He is a retired naval officer and former SH-60B helicopter pilot with over 2500 flight hours. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (BS, Physical Science), the Naval War College (MA, National Security and Strategic Studies), the Naval Postgraduate School (MS, Contract Management) and Liberty University (EdS, Educational Leadership). He is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.
