As experienced life cycle logisticians know, success in this business of ours requires an interdisciplinary breadth and depth in knowledge and experience across the not only the system life cycle, but across multiple functional domains. Perhaps nowhere is this more clearly illustrated than the intersection of logistics, product support, and systems engineering. DoD has long recognized – and articulated via both the Integrated Product Support (IPS) Elements, as well as the life cycle logistics competencies -- the critical technical skills a successful life cycle logistician requires.

These include (but are certainly not limited to) areas such as designing for supportability, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM), configuration management, technical data management, supportability analysis, and risk management, among others.  DoD has also long recognized the importance of our workforce – and tasked DAU to provide training on these topics. Many technically focused learning assets (including training courses, continuous learning modules, workflow learning resources) have deployed or undergone major updates in the last few years, so many life cycle logisticians may not have had the opportunity to receive the most current training available.

Encourage you to take a look at these and other training opportunities, not only to meet mandatory career field DAWIA certification requirements, but also in meeting your 80 hour continuous learning requirement, or perhaps better still, because you simply want to be a more well-rounded, knowledgeable, and effective life cycle logistician. Just a few of the available training courses available to you include:

·         ENG 101 Systems Engineering Fundamentals

·         LOG 103 Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM)

·         LOG 204 Configuration Management

·         LOG 211 Supportability Analysis

·         LOG 215 Technical Data Management

In addition among the hundreds of web-based continuous learning modules to choose from, several technically-focused training modules you might want to be aware of include:

·         CLL 008 Designing for Supportability in DoD Systems

·         CLL 012 Supportability Analysis

·         CLL 030 Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)

·         CLL 033 Logisticians Responsibilities During Technical Reviews

·         CLL 042 Supportability Analysis Techniques, Procedures and Tools

·         CLL 045 Designing for Transportability

·         CLL 057 Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) – Introduction

·         CLL 058 Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) – Theory and Principles

·         CLL 059 Sustaining Engineering

·         CLM 017 Risk Management

·         CLM 071-CLM 077 Suite of Data Management CL Modules

·         CLE 001 Value Engineering

·         CLE 003 Technical Reviews

·         CLE 026 Trade Studies

·         CLE 068 Intellectual Property & Data Rights

·         CLE 301 Reliability & Maintainability
