Survey of Modular Military Vehicles: Benefits and Burdens
Military vehicles can be designed from a modular standpoint to maximize cost savings and/or adapt-ability. This article surveys vehicle modularity from a historical viewpoint and considers design deci-sions that contribute to benefits or burdens over the life cycle of the vehicle.

Transaction costs are estimated using Systems Engineering and Program Management (SE/PM) costs as a share of total costs; survival analysis is then used to predict whether such costs influence the likelihood of cost breaches.
