Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) and Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME)

Last Updated : 04/18/2024

Overview

The Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) program and the Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) program are Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) programs that address DoD microcircuit obsolescence issues for which SRI International is the prime contractor.

The Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) technology was developed by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to provide a continuing solution to the microelectronics diminishing manufacturing sources problem. The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) sponsored Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) Program develops, demonstrates, and provides a continuing source of advanced technology, high-reliability, military-quality microcircuits. The AME technology may be used to provide Form, Fit, and Function (FFF) solutions at the digital component level. It can also be applied to consolidate multiple digital components into a single AME microcircuit, or the technology provides a continuing source of integrated circuits (ICs) for board level/system upgrades, redesigns, or new system designs, ensuring lifetime supportability.
