The objectives of the management system are to ensure that the Joint Electronics Type Designation Automated System (JETDAS) is properly administered and controlled; serves as a viable tool for identification of electronic materiel and for use in configuration management of this materiel; provides identification of electronic materiel type similarities and significant differences; and is sufficiently flexible and broad in scope to be applicable to present and future electronic materiel.

- JETDAS Access is available by submitting a request to your respective service Submitter Review Point (SRP) or your Department Control Point (DCP). Service Specific Departmental Control Points are listed in Para 6.2 of MIL-STD-196G
- JETDAS Requests for Nomenclature procedures are identified in paragraph 5.2 of MIL-STD-196G Requests for Nomenclature, which states "requests for nomenclature are submitted by the DCP to the DODCP on DD Form 61, Request for Nomenclature, electronically submitted through the automated database (JETDAS). An enrollment form must be obtained from the… DCP in order to gain access to JETDAS." CAC is required to access the JETDAS online link https://tdas7.army.mil/jetdas/.
